Who is Mr.Red?
My real name is Shan Murphy and I am a Sr. Electronic Technician from Austin, Texas. I was born and raised in the piney woods of East Texas, USA. After graduating from Brookeland High School (Go Wildcats!) in 1997 I chose to attend Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas. At the end of 1999 I made a difficult choice to leave A&M to attend ITT Technical Institute so that I could attend smaller classes and obtain a degree sooner. While I consider this one of the worst choices in my life so far, it did land me in Austin, Texas. Austin has been an awesome place to live providing more than enough activities to keep me busy. When Microsoft and Bungie introduce Halo on Xbox my friends and I decided to go with a Reservoir Dogs theme for naming our characters. Having used HiTekRedNek as a handle for years, I chose Mr.Red for my gamer tag. I now use Mr.Red as my identity for all online activities.
So what is MurphWorks?
Murphworks is MYSPACE on the net to share my work and my ideas with the online community. It’s a place where I can showcase my case modding. Case modding is an upcoming hobby that challenges people to take their boring beige computer case and make it easier to look at. Some computer cases are built from scratch giving you the ability to make your computer look like anything you want it to. Case modding is considered an art form by many and can be very rewarding. It has allowed me to retain some of my technical skills and allowed me to expand others.
While case modding will be the focus of MurphWorks, I will also include projects from my other hobbies as well.
What are my other Hobbies?
- Boating: In 2001 lightened my pocket book by buying a new boat. With Austin’s weather, our boating season usually lasts from March to October. That’s a lot of wake boarding ladies and gentlemen. My friends and I head out to Lake Austin every week that we can to enjoy the water and hang out.
- Mnt. Biking: In Austin this is really just trail ridding; however, with the rocky hills of Central Texas, it is still exhilarating and challenging. Austin is home to several trails that can keep even an expert rider content. It was a bit strange switching from BMX to Mnt. Biking, but I enjoy it very much. I have now been biking on my beloved Specialized Hard Rock since 2000.
- Rock Climbing: While I haven’t been climbing very long, I have found it to be a very thrilling sport.
- Gaming: Be it PC or Console, I am always up for gaming. Halo and Battlefield have been my games of choice for several years now.
- Paintball: My latest addiction. What can I say it is a blast. I have been playing now for several months and I am running with a group called Black List. We call our little squad here in Austin the Infidels.
